"Marsha... Marsha.... Marsha...!"
Either Arlington was not the best runner or Marsha McCormick had quickened her pace. Surely, she just hadn't heard him. He knew this was a longshot. She was one of the most popular 7th years in the school and probably already had a date. She had probably been asked to the dance a dozen times by now. But, when he saw her crossing the courtyard, Arlie just had to give it a shot.
He likely wouldn't have another chance to approach her, so he had to try at least once. He was a little surprised when she actually stopped at the snakewood tree and turned to face him.
"Oh! Um... hi! I was wondering if you would consider.... I know there are probably other guys.... Not that you go out with a lot of them... Or, that you don't... I mean...."
Rolling her eyes, Marsha turned around.
"No, wait, Stop..."
As Arlington reached out, Bullwinkle emerged from a pocket and ran down his arm. The squirrel leapt over to the upperclassman in an attempt to stop her. The girl shrieked, batted the rodent away and ran. He stood there a moment, as Bullwinkle climbed back up and into a pocket. He just watched Marsha run away, impressed by her speed. Then, he slowly became aware of the other students in the courtyard, looking at him and whispering to one another.
Oh no...
