Tall and lanky, Arlington would stand out even without his disheveled red hair and vibrant green eyes. For the most part, he's an average student, with a keen intellect and an interest in charms and nature based magics. He's known to be friendly and approachable, eschewing house rivalries, blood politics and other social divisions. He's most at home out in the forests, where such concerns matter very little, and is happy to make friends with almost anyone. His closest friend, however, is likely his companion squirrel, Bullwinkle.



Other than wand enthusiasts, few outside of the Great Lakes region are familiar with the Wayne family. While they are master craftsmen, they're remote location prevented them from receiving the exposure and prestige of the likes of Wolfe or Beauvais. This is something Arlington would like to change and he has often voiced his hope to continue and expand his family's traditions. He talks little about his family otherwise. He was raised primarily by his grandfather, while his parents have spent most of his life abroad.

Wand: Carved from Crooked Tree wood with a Mishipeshu hair core, Arlington’s wand is a long 14” and quite flexible. It was one of very few Wayne family wands Ilvermorny has had on hand for selection ceremonies. Arlington took it as a clear sign of his intended path, that a Wayne crafted wand selected him.

Name: Sylvain Leloup
Nationality: Québécois

Background: Born of a metis family in the Laurentides region of Québec, Sylvain as struggled to reconnect with his Huron/Cree ancestry, even more so when he discovered his magical heritage. Unbeknown to him, his estranged father had been a wizard in his own right but vanished when he was about ten years old. The only thing that he left behind was a wand for his son.

Sylvain finds himself often a loner. This is not due because of any antisociability from him but because few would ever join him in his woodland adventures except for some of his fellow thunderbirds.

Wand: Sylvain's wand is unique. Crafted for him by his father before his disapearance, the wand is made of simple maple of reddish color but holds the feather of a thunderbird at it's core. The wand is about eleven inches long and curves towards the tip. The maple is fairly tick on the outside curve but narrows into a sharp edge when going inwards giving it the look of a large wooden talon. Some people are pretty sure he could stab or cut others with it.

Background: Fitz is a member of a branch family of an old Pureblood clan, but too far outside the line of succession to inherit much other than the name. Raised in the self-reliant New Englander family, his parents were given an extra allowance from the main clan for his schooling, to help maintain the magical aptitude of the clan as a whole.

Fitz was sorted into Thunderbird, much to the surprise of many considering his bookish nature. In spite of that, he has a nose for mischief, and was begun a small side business brewing potions for other students on a fairly strict "One question" policy...with that question being "Can you pay?"

Wand: Hornbeam with a Rougarou Hair core. It is a family heirloom, but Fitz has always been a bit cagey on the particulars.

Appearance:

Xanthe is slightly shorter than average, has short dark hair, pale skin, and most noticeably: eyes that have a sheen to them that is most definitely not natural. Her standard expression could best be described as... expressionless. Her second favorite expression would best be described as... lethargic.

Public Knowledge:

Ever since her first year at Ilvermorny, Xanthe has been the subject of bad rumors. The Vanderwycks are famous; or infamous; throughout North America. There's not a wizard or witch who hasn't heard of them. They're one of the oldest wizarding families of the continent, and without any doubt part of its wizarding elite. But the other members of that same elite tend to look disfavorably on the Vanderwycks. While even their biggest detractors are reluctantly forced to admit that the Vanderwycks have produced many powerful wizards and witches, and that there's very few events of magical importance in North-America that have not seen the positive involvement of a Vanderwyck, few would openly admit to any sort of positive judgement on them. There's just something not quite right with them, most everyone can agree. The family suffers under a potent curse, the common rumor goes. The bloodline's filled with halfbreeds of all sorts, another common rumor insists. Some people are of the strong opinion that they're toying far too much with the Dark Arts. A few might privately insist they're rather too quick to *dismiss* the Dark Arts. Most would agree that they're bastions of impropriety in all manner of ways, and that their insular nature frankly just doesn't help.

Naturally, opinions held by parents are often imprinted on their children. Don't associate with a Vanderwyck. There's also the rumor that Xanthe is a half-breed; a *vampire* half-breed to be specific. That comes with all manner of prejudices, even if nobody has gotten real confirmation that it's actually true. Though, there was that girl that claimed she saw Xanthe drink blood that one time. And a number of students have sworn they saw her try to cover up what very much looked like fangs. Plus, she's just creepy isn't she? And a loner? She talks all weird sometimes. And look, have you ever even seen her go outside when it's sunny?

With all that, it might be no surprise to find that Xanthe hasn't really managed to make any friends. She's always been that quiet weird girl nobody wants to hang out with, the one that every school has. But maybe this year will be different? Maybe this year she'll finally stand out?

Wand: An elegant and unbending wand of Red Oak with a Dragon Heartstring core, 12 inches in length. The handle has an intricate carving of a set of interlocking keys, encircled by spirit-like figures.

• There's just so many reasons to have a bad opinion of her. So many reasons to want to bully or otherwise mess with her. It'd just be keeping the school safe from some Dark Arts practicising half-Vampire who will probably like, kill someone in their sleep while drinking their blood or something. Ugh, someone should totally do something about her!
• This year, Xanthe seems a little bit different. A little more, daring perhaps? A little more likely to get into trouble too. She seems to be trying new things in an attempt to get noticed. Maybe you're the sort to get into trouble too.
• As bad of a reputation as they may have among so many, the Vanderwycks are very well known indeed. And mysterious as well. Secretive. There are those whose curiosity might be stronger than any desire to preserve their social standing.
• Not like anyone talks about her much; but on the rare occasion they do, it might come to light that she's not bad with Transfiguration. She's also supposedly okay with a broom, and one may have overheard a teacher remarking that Xanthe's wand is well suited to duelling. It's not *inconceivable* that someone might look past her reputation (and the possible hit to their own social life) if one is interested in those things themselves.

Layla is a completely new student to the school, having been a surprise late last minute transfer from Hogwarts in the summer. She is quite short, with medium length white hair usually kept straight, and blue eyes. She seems quite quiet and reserved, which isn't unusual as she knows nobody at this school whatsoever. Her accent gives her away as someone from the UK (London to be specific).

Her clothes look of the finest quality, hinting that she may not be a poor student, but she avoids any question on wealth

Ondine Gwa'wina Sedna Corbeau

Of dark hair and eyes, height below median and somewhat rotund face features and thicker bones despite being fit, her First Nations origins are more than apparent, even if there is also a hint of some slight genetic admixture of colonisers' blood. Her casual wear has little to do with elegance and more with her personal curiosity and fancy, and even the uniforms are worn by her with a carefree attitude. Her personal grooming is a conscious defiance of conformity. She’s attractive in the class of attractivity she herself defines.

She allegedly comes from a long line of Kwakiutl shaman leaders and hence belongs to the tribal nobility distinguished by their potlatsch generosity. She has the habit of sharing her possessions freely, and indeed she has a big collection of baubles, trinkets, handiwork and sundry to bestow upon others that may just come handy... or not. Big masks are her favourite. Her least favourite is all muggle technology which she openly derides.

She's more sporty and outdoorsy than studious, and while she has had her moments of academic brilliance, most of the time she goes through studies with blase indifference and defaulting to the minimal threshold. What has earned her a notorious repute is her recalcitrance in disregarding school regulations about where, when and what to do or not to do. She’s been suspended several times over accumulation of casual transgressions or pranks, and has shown little repentance. Her decision-making is hard to decode, but it leans toward bold and careless.

While she's usually weirdly funny, forthcoming and helpful, she has hardly made any soul mate friends, having an inner world she doesn't compromise over. She seems to feel most comfortable among driven introverts whose life is about something and who don’t feel the urge to socialise over trifles. If, however, they're up for long philosophical discussions at wee hours over pot - all the better.

Her wand is of black walnut, lustrously bsmooth like driftwood and curvy like a mallard’s penis. It seems to have an independent streak, makes strange noises on occasion and turns overeager when bolder and unorthodox magic is at play.

Uru comes from a long line of Native American magicians. It is said that her ancestor was a great animagus warrior of legend who traveled across the Uintah mountains in search of the Red Swan and brought her home to be his wife.

Her family is well-known amongst the Native American community for their beauty and skill with transformation magic. She herself is nothing but a prime example of her family’s good reputation. Charismatic, beautiful, and relatively well-skilled for her age she entered into the school and quickly became one of the most popular girls in her grade due to her down to earth personality and truly open-minded approach to all of her peers. She is never one to turn away a possible friend. She is not the most studious or ambitious girl, but tries her best to make life at Ilvermorny more bearable for everyone.

At the time of her placement, when brought to the statues Uru stood and waited for quite sometime while the statues seemed to be mumbling to each other. In the end, three of the four statues offered their invitation to her… Pukwudgie for her commitment to others, the Thunderbird for her willingness to bend boundaries, and the Wampus for her natural charisma. While not a full-four houses the tri-selection drew the eyes of many of her fellow entries and made her a target for potential friendship in the future. She elected to choose the Pukwudgie herself, trusting in her more compassionate nature and hoping to find a home among others of a more peaceful demeanor.

Her personal wand revealed itself to her as when she took it a flurry of red feathers filled the air around her and swirled with energy for a few seconds before comfortably fitting in her hand. Something of an omen of sorts from the girl who descended from the fabled ancestor named Red Swan.

She had two older brothers recently graduate from Ilvermorny over the past two years, both from the Wampus house where they excelled as athletes. She now has a younger brother coming to school for his first year and is excited about the time he gets to spend here... if not a bit worried about his eccentricities getting in the way of fully enjoying himself.

Description:
Grace Astoria Wilkinson is a young, fair, blonde witch of two prestigious bloodlines, Grace always dresses to impress, to avoid bringing shame to the Wilkinson name. Her wardrobe consists of a mix of Horned Serpent colors and green and silver, the colors of her original Hogwarts House, Slytherin. She also wears some silver or gold jewels, switching things up as she feels.

Personality and background:
Grace moved to Ilvermorny and North America last year, and quickly fit into the new school and environment. As a posh, rich and smart witch, this wasn't too hard overall. Excelling at Transfiguration and Potions, Grace also won quite a few points among the staff, especially with her respectful attitude (at least towards the teachers). A gregarious, personable student, she also often helps other, non-Horned Serpent students in catching up on their school work. It's always worth building favors and connections, after all. At Hogwarts, she was in House Slytherin, a House well known for its ambitious members and dark wizards and witches. Grace emphasizes the former while downplaying the latter, as much, as she can. At Ilvermorny, both the Horned Serpent and the Thunderbird displayed interest in her, and though she chose the Serpent, she still hangs out with the Thunderbirds most when they have common classes.

Wand:
Grace's wand is long and slim, the elm wood harvested from the woods of her mother's land in England, and the core is a tail hair of a Unicorn, one of a dozen from her father's lands.

Description:
Faith is fairly tall, at least taller than average but fairly slender. That, along with her distinctive red hair makes her stick out a fair bit from a crowd, a mane of deep burnt orange most often kept loose in a cascade past her shoulders. Sometimes she will put it into two twin braids draped over her shoulders, especially in the warmer months, but the shade is still fairly noticeable and makes her easy to recognize from afar. Her skin is pale, with a dusting of freckles across her cheeks and shoulders, Her eyes are blue, normally covered by dark-rimmed glasses. There is a small silver nose ring she often wears through her septum, something that allegedly happened at Ilvermorny during her second or third year, though she noticeably doesn't ever have it in when she arrives at the diner on the way to Ilvermorny in the beginning of the year.

Faith is often a bit reluctant to go into too much about her home life, though it's not uncommon for her to get questions about where she's from. Her accent is distinctly southern, light and sweet in a way that she doesn't always like, personally. She comes from Alabama, in what is labelled a city but to most would be described as a small town, at best. When it comes up, she tends to be a bit terse and change the subject; she's not rude but seems a bit uncomfortable by it.

During her time in Ilvermorny she has had a chance to establish herself as a fairly talented healer. She's fairly good in her studies, though truthfully she kind of has to be considering that being able to heal effectively means that one needs at least fairly good knowledge in curses, counter-curses, charms, transfiguration, potions, and herbology, since a malady could realistically be caused by any of those things. Ilvermorny is also an opportunity for Faith to try new things and live a little; there's a sense that perhaps she was fairly sheltered at home so her time in Ilvermorny tends to also include a bit of activity she likely had no opportunity for in her small town life.

Wand:
Faith's wand is very short, smooth and made of willow. It's a lot more like a slender stake than a thin and elegant wand many think of, fairly thick coming to a pronounced point at the end. It has no real embellishment to it, one could even describe it as fairly plain looking beside the slightly abnormal shape. The core is Rougarou hair, a bit unusual as it has a bit of a negative association with the dark arts.

Hailing from an extremely wealthy wizarding family with roots, and extended family, back in Russia, Mischa is an extremely confidant young wizard with an easing going manner. With members of his family already in important positions within MACUSA his future was assured before he even got to Ilvermorny, but it helps to actually do things for yourself and not just rely on nepotism. Popular, charming and handsome, he might not be as athletic or skilled at duelling as others within Wampus, instead he has the aura of a leader.

Blonde, blue eyed and attractive, it's not hard to see why he's one of the popular guys. Quick to joke and perhaps occasionally a witty insult, he is genuinely easy to talk to, and some find the Russian accent fascinating. He doesn't excel at any one subject here keeping his options open on what magic to learn, but does seem to enjoy making potions the most.

Name: Jerric Mason (most people call him Jay)

Jerric is the first Mason to attend Ilvermorny for over a century but the family has deep magical roots tracing back to the magical heritage of Africa and were active in Wizarding world of Britain and also America. Though there hasn't been a magical baby born in over a hundred years Jerric broke that trend and has become the first wizard in the Mason family for a very long time. Through his time at Ilvermorny it has bee apparent that Jerric has a weak ability with most magic but shows aptitude in the casting of counter magic. Besides that Jay is an avid athlete He has a place on the Wumpus Quodpot team and is an experienced chaser in Quidditch. Jerric has also proven himself to be an accomplished duelist if not a rather unorthodox one. Jerric utilizes his ability for counter magic to protect himself while he closes in and takes down his opponent physically. The style has been criticized and questioned but has been ruled to be valid.

Jerric is a large and strong looking boy with a natural athleticism his eyes are kind and his smile friendly. Jay is attractive with a strong jaw and features that will likely grow to be ruggedly handsome with years but he doesn't know it, or at least seems to not. he is not known as one of the "popular kids" but none the less has friends from every house. Jay is friendly to all and hates bullies, he has gathered somewhat of a reputation for standing up for those that have trouble defending themselves. While he is often courageous and fearless he can also be reckless and tends to come off as a bit cocky but he always puts his money where his mouth is so to speak.

Cian walks like he doesn't have a care in the world, and for most of the student body and even most of the teachers that seems to be the case. Takes a while, but a solid few've probably worked out the determined spirit that lies underneath all that posturing and swagger. Dressed often, when he can, in the rough trends of a city-boy and not just any city but NYC itself. Usually seen as a kid who's up front with what he's thinking, few think to realize that he might not be about everything.

Not one to talk about his home life, his stories of what he does in the city are usually casual and brush that part of the conversation of the side away quickly. Though, many likely attribute that to his outward appearance.

An appearance cultivated in his school life as much as his actual appearance. Cian is one to go for a big show, to prove himself constantly, and is always looking for a leg up in the more practical aspects. Popular, in the sense that he never looks too much like he's trying all that hard. Certainly a name most of the rest of the student body has certainly become familiar with.

John Mallory is a young man with a big dream. A rare feat for the typical Horned Serpent, his personality is more outgoing than most of the others of his House. His intellectual capacity is only met by his quick means to throw a few quips back at people. Mostly well received by his fellow students at the school, he main focus is to continue on his dueling prowess in hopes to one day become a Auroa.
