Classes begin and go on as normal. The politics of student life move on unchecked as everyone settles into their new routines. September passes almost without incident, though the first posters for the annual Halloween bash (this year called the Halloween Spooktacklar - a name that receives ridicule) going up as the month closes. While classes carry on, many students joke about how terrible and lame (that's a word the no-majs use now, right?) the dance will be this year.

The weather remains warm through most of September, rarely dropping below 60 degrees (Fahrenheit, 15 degrees Celsius) with fairly consistent rain. The late month sees several days of storms, delaying the start of both the Quodpot and Quidditch trials until the very last days of the month. When the weather finally clears, it is October and cool even for the season, barely reaching 50 degrees (Fahrenheit, 10 degrees Celsius) on the warmest of days. As the month crawls on, it rains more often than not and it's a rare day that does not see some rain at some point. Storms are few and far between but, near the end of the month, the coolest of nights produce a light dusting of snow that disappears almost with the first rays of light.

First: Thunderbird, with 40 Points
Second: Horned Serpent, with 30 Points
Third: Pukwudgie, with 10 Points
Last: Wampus, with 0 Points

"She's just jealous she didn't get into Wampus, that's all."
"It's not like we'd want her anyways. Have you ever seen anyone that weird?"

"Yeah! Since the first night! Faith snuck out and that little creep went after her!"
"Who, Kendrith?"
"No, that Wampus boy! Jerry or something like that."

... heard muttering in Potions class ...
"Wait, you heard she's jealous about not being in Wampus? Hah! That's a joke!"
"Well, what is it then?"
"I heard she's in love with John and walked in on him making out with Kelly from Horned Serpent last year. She's totally just getting back at him."

... heard in the Entrance Hall one day ...
"Did you hear the fifth years all got drunk on the bus?"
"Shhhh! Keep it down! You don't want to get anyone in trouble!"
"Oh, old Barnaby already knew. I bet you they're already finding out who it was."
"The old man doesn't care. He's just happy to be driving no-maj tech."

... heard during flying practice ...
"Did you meet the new No-Maj Studies prof yet?"
"Yeah, he's kinda weird. But it looks like it'll be an easy class."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, he kind of stammered for twenty minutes and then we watched moving picture of cats... ?"

... muttered in the Grotto ...
"I hear that no one's seen the headmaster since that first night. He never comes down for dinner."
"That's not true! I saw him going into the Maze the other night when I... uhhh..."
"... did you sneak out of the dorms to make out with that Kelly girl again? You know she's trouble."
"Oh, you're just jealous. At least I'm kissing someone."
