Is this a light tower? (D3 evening after Midterms expecting)

Nothing immediate strikes your senses as you sniff around. Minus the guards, of course.



Ascending upwards, you eventually make your way to the top of the tower. It is a inspiring view of a sunset sky, the horizon showing red and a dark blue as the orb slowly descends. Within a minute or two the sun will be gone and darkness will truly take a grasp of this place.

What a pretty view....

Layla took a few moments to enjoy the sight from the top of the tower before finding somewhere away from the edge to sit and wait for nightfall.

Sylvain stepped up the last ladder, regaining his human form

''Well, this is it. All to do now is wait''

The scene draws to a close as the night sky finally shows itself. The wealth of stars finally shows its head across the darkness and the moon begins to fully come into view.

And...nothing else.

At least, not for another 5 minutes.

You are soon joined by a faded figure of a man in colonial guard outfit, a musket in one hand and a wand in another. He passes by you, as if to do his duty.

"Your shift is over; Go get some rest, then."

Sylvain looked at Layla in stupefaction but quickly got his wits about him

''Felt like forever'' he said in a low voice ''But nothing spotted...nothing on your end last night?''

[Flession]

The ghostly guard nods his head. "Same old, same old. Scourers have yet to return as of late. Last nite's patrol of the forest fared no better than before. Still, sure there will be another Scourer attack sometime soon. Those bastard always seem to come out when you least expect it. So easy for them to hide within our ranks, it is." He nods and looks out. "Don't know if they'll ever come back again, but we'll be ready. Won't be caught off guard again like the last time."

Quiet in her place beside Sylv, staying hidden from the ghost thanks to being completely silent, Layla listened.

Scourer? she thought to herself, remembering back to what she read...

You're not as familiar as you are with the North American wizardly history as you are with the English version, but you do recall a recent class on the matter of the Scourers. They were Wizard mercenaries back in the 17th century that were originally bounty hunters for the magical world, but eventually were corrupted and pushed further the notion of magical witch hunting to the No-Maj world. They were eventually stopped, but some managed to escape and blend into No-Maj society, more or less creating a very skeptical and well aware No-Maj society capable of picking up on the Wizarding World than in Europe, with some descendants gaining their prowess, some of which became excellent infiltrators within the magical world.

There have been several assaults and ambushes caused by their kin that have been awoken over the centuries, but lately, their kin has been silent, allowing MACUSA to eventually reduce their restrictions on wands for the youth, as well as casting in public.

The school was attacked by Wizarding mercenaries?

Layla whispered in Sylvs ear very quietly "ask about the other towers"

He nodded

''I heard something went on at the thirteenth tower but I was not debriefed by command on it...do you know more?''

[Flession]

The solider looks on at you oddly, then shakes his head. "All I know is a dark wizard in and caused a ruckus. One of the Twenty-Eight, I'm sure. Had a little bit of a spat, they did, caused our defenses to nearly shamble. Why we had to move over here to this post to guard the school, eventually. Though that took awhile...but how would you not know abo--"

As he looked at you, what seemed to be focusing beyond the veil of it until he acts like he is blinking. "Oh...a student. The uniform should have been obvious. Sorry..." He shakes his head and rubs his temples. "You do a job for so long, you just... you just don't see things as well as you used to. Sometimes you forget who you were..."

He gives a sigh and leans up against the musket, acting as if it is connecting to the ground and extends his hand to you. "Not gonna depress you, on my life. Or unlife, as it were. James is the name. Assuming you're not here for just a view, then?"

Dark Wizard...that's not good.

"The sixteen towers are to guard against dark wizards?" She asked Sylv, again quietly.

[Sylvain Leloup]

Sylvain extends his hands out to shake the specter's, if possible at all.

"We were following a trail of clues, actually.'' he admitted ''An honor to make you acquiantance ser James. I am Sylvain''

[Flession]

The hand naturally goes thru the specter as you extend to reach.

"Oh. My mistake. Not really here, am I?" He looked around at the two. "Well, a regular mystery then. Well, it's all sort of here and not here, but I don't mind answering a few questions while I keep watch." He turns out of the tower to stare out into the distance, keeping a close eye for a enemy that may never show its head again.

''What can you tell us about the Scourers and the attack on the school?''

[Flession]

"The Scourers were just a sort. Constantly launched attacks against us. The assault, though..." He continues to stare out. "That was done by that Gaunt wench, Gormlaith. She hired Scourers to help her assault on the school, which we fought off till the end. The towers formed a barrier, you see, to keep out Muggles, as well as a form of a barrier. Though that went down, in the end, except Thirteen. They held on strong and fought off their assault, so they were the only guardsmen to survive."

He nodded his head, still not looking directly at you. "That whole ordeal, though, is why we chose to remain. Isolt was a inspiring sort, so me and a few others chose to stay here and protect the school she so loved."

''Gormlaith?'' He pondered

''Is that why the tower always seems cold?''

[Flession]

"I couldn't tell you for sure. She's not buried there, as far as I'm aware. They took what was left of her and properly discarded her thereafter." He gave a large shrug at that. "Couldn't tell you what would cause a tower to feel that way. Maybe something happen to it afterwards?" He looked over to him, breaking his vision of his duty for a moment.

"I can tell you no Scourer did it, at least on our end. We are always on guard for that ilk."

[Sylvain Leloup]

''I see, I thank you for your vigilance''

That should be without saying that such devotion was remarkable

''Do you know of anyone going by the initials of M.M?''

[Flession]

He gives a long pause, thinking back. "No, it does not sound familiar. All sorts come here to the tower, all sorts pass thru. A initial such as that...would be like remembering a single blade of grass." He nods and looks back. "Your thanks are welcome, but not necessary. nothing of my service. It is my duty and my privilege to continue to protect Isolt's dream and I am honoured to do it."

''I see...are there any other watchman like yourself near the school?'' he asked
