John in the meantime slumps back into his seat, his face is sweating profusely from the increased amount of dueling he had to do to win this. Not to mention Ondine following up his defeat with that joke, insult to injury.

"If I knew..." He takes a deep breath and looks over at one of his fellow classmates... "That I'd have to duel this many people, I'd have never volunteered myself for this."'

He raises his voice loudly over to the teacher watching over the scene. "Professor Lockhart, you owe me for this."

"Terrible jokes make the world go flat and be carried away by giant turtles?" Ondine smirked at the Professor Lockhart's remark. "But I somehow feel you wanted to call it cheesy, Professor Lockhart, with France coming up right after."

Then she lifted her mask and blew a godfather's kiss for John.

Professor Lockhart looks on at him with a large grin, shouting over to him. "Oh, you'll be fine. You'll get some good rest afterwards and some experience under your boot. Besides, at least now you know how popular you are."

She wasn't quite sure what to say to Ondine's quip afterwards, and just shrugged it off. "Well, France does have good cheese, I suppose. Though I guess when you're older you don't tend to go there just for that."

Xanthe's duel had gone extremely well; she had the top score so far for sure...

...It had also gone extremely poorly; since the captain of the duelling club was clearly in a lot of pain from the jinx she'd sent his way; one that had made him go flying off the dueling stage and crashing into the crowd behind him. Lockhard may have told him he'd be fine just before the duel... but maybe she'd been quite wrong?

Xanthe just stood there, not quite sure how to react. Had she done something wrong? But she had beaten him fair and square, hadn't she? Sure, she hadn't been expecting her jinx to be quite so strong, but... this was what duels were supposed to be, right?

Arlington cheered on everyone, but was especially vocal in support of the Thunderbirds.

"Nice effort Fitz!"

"Woo! Great job Cordine!"

"Ooooo...... That's, wow.... Impressive duel, X!"

"I guess so, I just feel more comforta- Shit!" Faith was in the middle of talking to Cian, not even looking entirely at the duel but the noise was quick to snap her attention back, a loud thump followed by a sliding sound as John Mallory was flung backwards from Xanthe. She planted her hand on the floor, pushing herself up to her feet quickly, running immediately across the room towards John without so much as a pause. It wasn't like her to swear, she hardly ever did, something she occasionally got teased about, though.. special circumstances.

She slid in to kneel next to John, looking over the injury with a look of concern, wand in hand. His arm was certainly broken, based on the way he fell and slid on it. The problem was in the moment, she didn't want to get it wrong. Fixing a bone can be a bit of a precise art, and doing it incorrectly made things much, much worse.

"I...don't know if I can fix this..."

"Why yes, it is quite lovely, Professor. Haven't been to Germany yet, though." She glanced at the dueling stage...and her eyes widened at what the Vanderwycked did to poor John.

She ran to her House member. "John, John, are you okay?" is he going to recover by the time of her party?!

"Yes. It is terrible that I missed that shot Professor." Fitz's voice remains deadpan as he pokes another treat into his mouth

Fitz rolls his eyes a little, trying not to show his annoyance.

Always so worried, and not willing to get it done.

"I'll do it." Fitz feels around the arm, locating the break. He looks over at Faith, and then back at John. "It should be easy to set. We'll go on three." Fitz looks back at Faith with his hand still on John's arm. "Hey, it's not fun, but it's better than Skele-grow, am I-" Without further words, Fitz shoves the bone back into alignment suddenly, not giving John the time to tense up. "Sorry, it's better if you don't see it coming."

Now aligned, the arm is easier to heal. "Brackium Emendo."

Fitz looks up and grins at Professor Lockheart. "I do have some, practical experience Professor...it's just more like this. Can you imagine all the times Thunderbirds have jumped off something as a dare?"

Within moments, John's arm begins to slowly set itself back into place as bones begin to pop within his arm. It isn't exactly a pleasant experience for him, but at least he would just need to ice down his arm for the evening and it'd be good as new in the morning.

"Never going to volunteer myself again..." John quips at Fitz with a small pain-filled laugh.

When Ora went up Layla clapped a little louder to try and cheer her new friend on...and then cheer up when she left after the duel. She was going to flag her down when the ketchup girl went up...and badly injured someone.

What the hell? How reckless!

She hovered nearby, not sure how she could help, but wanting to make sure the poor guy who had offered himself for this wasn't too hurt.

Fitz reaches to pat John's shoulder, realizing at the last moment that it's the injured one.

"You took that like a champ though! Consider yourself invited to our next party. Hopefully we'll have fewer...accidents." Fitz offers a weak smile and then back of at Xan with a grin.

Violet excuses herself from the current conversation and begins to head over to check on John. Seeing that Faith and Fitz had the situation covered, she immediately focuses her attention on the perpetrator of this action. " Miss Vanderwyck!" Her Irish accent bellows out of her voice, clearly able to tell she was not happy with what had occurred as she makes a b-line directly to the young witch. "I understand wanting to show off in front of the other students, but you need to learn control! Otherwise you make mistakes, slip up, and people get hurt. 10 points are off Thunderbird for gross irresponsibility!"

He looks over at her, still fuming at her careless actions. "Now go to take Mister Mallory to the infirmary and return back here at once."

Sylvain had walked in just in time to see the duelling captain arm snapped back into place. He was concerned, of course, but everything was under control and...well...magic healing was a thing here

''Rough competition this year'' he commented, grabbing a snack or two ''The captain looks like he could use a rest''

"Ugh. That was too much." Ondine sneered. She ignored the mispronouncing of her name because who cared, but neither would she rush to crowd poor John. "You should be on cleaning duty for this, Xanthe. We're not bullies."

"But I--" She started to protest; but her lacking social skills didn't help her to stand up against miss Lockhart. And what was with people from her own house piling on? Sure, she wasn't really any more popular among Thunderbirds than she was the other houses, but still...

...this sucked. She didn't mean to. He was the captain of the dueling club, he should've been able to handle it!

Her eyes flared for a moment at the injustice of it; that unnatural sheen probably not helping her case any; before she moved to her victim's side to help him get to the infirmary.

"I'm... sorry," she offered to him, before her hand was added to the offer as well.

Fitz helps John up and get over to Xanthe, offering a grin at his forlorn classmate. Handing his charge over, Fitz gives the tiny girl an affectionate soft punch on the shoulder.

"You're going to have to show me that one! It was incredible. No offense John, I'm not trying to heap in it, it's just that I never knew she was that good!"

Fitz lowers his voice to his fellow Thunderbird. "Don't let Lockheart get you down. If you're ever in a real duel, no one is going to cry that you went all out to still be standing."

"Yeah, it's fine..." He nodded. "You did good, Xanathe. I shouldn't have kept going if I was this exhausted, so it's my fault too. Don't worry about it. Just buy me something from Honeydukes any we'll call it even, alright?" Motioning to his second, Melissa, the Vice-Head of the Dueling Club. "You're up, then. Make us look good, Melissa."

With that, the young witch gives a deep sigh at it as her head begins to walk off slowly away from the basement.

Witnessing the whole event, as was only natural, Cian was slow with his approach behind Faith. As the others hustled over and gathered around for the incident Cian stuck to the outer ring, circling around until he found a wall he could wait against in sight of Faith. Was really only his friend he was concerned with, at this point. Though, he'd maybe chatted with plenty of the others circling around plenty.

House solidarity, and all that.

Though, chiefly, he glanced over the Thunderbirds occasionally, sneering.

As much as she had trouble handling the whole, being chastized thing; Xanthe also had difficulty dealing with compliments. Especially after what just happened. Fitz's compliments barely registered; though part of her recognized them as a good thing; if something to be embarassed about too.

"Uh, right," she said to John, a little distracted still by the pat on her shoulder. "Okay, let's go to the infirmary then." The fact he'd gotten her name wrong was glossed over entirely.

Xanthe would then take him to the infirmary, as instructed. If need be she would support him, or otherwise make sure he got there in one piece. She would explain the situation to the person on duty there; make sure that he was okay, offer another apology, and then she would return as Miss Lockhart had told her to do... she was pretty sure the teacher was going to spring some more punishment on her somehow. Why else would she have made a point of getting Xanthe back here as soon as possible?

Melissa looks upon Sylvain and shakes his head. "Why not, the honor of the club and all that hangs in the balance after our fallen leader. We must avenge him..." There was a very dry snark in her voice as she spoke as she grabbed her wand and looked on. "Just let me know when you're ready."

Not long after she utterred those words, Sylvain made it known that he was and their duel was on its way

It was not flashy or very long...but it was over soon enough with a victory for the thunderbird.

Jay saw John go flying and barely stopped from rushing to his side. Crowding an injured person was a no no, he didnt have anything that would help so he watched from a distance as they tended to the student and shook his head. This wasnt a real duel, it was little more than a practice. We didnt need to be going so hard this wasnt supposed to be that serious.
